Hot To Make An Electric Motor Boat

Radio Control NQD High Wind RC 30'' Twin Motor Electric Speed Boat RTR NEW

Hi friends, how is the progress? Did you try my boat designs? If you have any questions of concerns please feel free to comment on them and I try my best to solve them. Today we are going to make very interesting boat “An Electric Motor Boat”. Most of the people are dreaming about this. You can buy electric motor boats from your nearest marketplace. But making your own motor boat will give you a great joy. Actually we have made similar boat design previously rubber band powered toy boat. Only different here is we use electric DC motor instead of rubber band to give power to the boat.

First you need to find light weight wood or plastic plate to make the body of the boat. As shown in figure, cut wood or plastic plate to get the boat shape body. Now you need small DC electric motor, battery pack, terminal wires and carpentry glue.

How To Make A Electric Powered Rowing Boat

Our last project was “rubber band powered rowing boat”, today we are going to discuss how to replace the rubber band of the boat with electric motor to make “electric powered rowing boat”. There are some advantages with electric motor boat than rubber band powered boat. Always you need to re-wind your rubber band again and again to give power to your boat. But with electric motors you can sail your boat until its battery gets dead. Also you can introduce some remote controlling mechanisms like radio controlled rowing boat, IR controlled boat …etc when you place electric motor to your boat. So first we will look how to replace the rubber band with small electric motor. For this you can use small DC motor if your boat is small. If your boat is little large, find little large motor.

How To Make A Rubber Band Powered Rowing Boat

Rowing Boat

Our next project is to make a rubber band powered rowing boat. I guess you all familiar with the rowing or rowing boats. Rowing boat is not a complex boat and basically one or more people can drive. A seated rower pulls on one or two oars, which lever the boat through the water. The pivot point of the oars (attached solidly to the boat) is the fulcrum. Normal rowing boat has a human rower but in our case we replace the rower with the rubber and simple lever system to give power to the boat. You need to wind the rubber band and then release it to move forward. Let’s see how we can make this rubber band powered rowing boat. Later I will explain how we can replace rubber band with a small electric motor. Once you place a motor you can even control this boat using radio controlled remote controller.

How To Make A Steam Boat

Today we are going to discuss how to make a small toy steam boat. There are several methods to make steam boats. Here is very simple method and very easy to construct.

Kids Warning: If you are a kid please take assistance from your parents, before attempt to this project.

The concept behind this boat is, using a pressured stream flow we make power to the boat. When pressurized steam flow sprays from the behind of the boat, boat will move forward. To generate steam and pressurized it, it uses a burner. This burner even can be a small oil lamp if your boat is not too big.

Materials need:

1. 20 cm * 10 cm wood or plastic plate
2. Small burner or oil lamp
3. Small tin can(small empty paint tin can)
4. Carpentry glue

First you need to make the body of the boat. For this take 20 cm * 10 cm wood or plastic plate. Paste small two pieces of wood to place the tin as shown in figure 1. Burner should be able place under the tin to heat out the tin can. Then fill the tin can half of water and close the tin can cap. Make a small hole on the tin can cap. Now place the tin can on the two wood legs and small hole should be on top. Please refer the figure 1.Figure 1: Steam boat design

Now work is done. Go to nearest lake or any place that you are planing to test your steam boat. Place the steam boat on the water and on the burner or light up the oil lamp. Wait some time till the water get boiled and make steam. When steam generates, steam pressure in the tin can goes high and from the small hole that steam will spray out. Due to this pressured steam flow boat will move forward. Figure 2 show the completed steam boat.Figure 2: Completed Steam Boat

Try it and see how much you and your kid be happy by simple making this steam boat. Good luck.

Rubber Band Powered Toy Boat - 2

Did you try our first project Rubber Band Powered Toy Boat. Today I will show you another rubber band powered toy boat. Only different here is the propeller. If you found it difficult to find a propeller for previous project, you can try this. I will show you how to make your own boat propeller for this boat. This boat is also powered using a rubber band.

Following materials you need to find:

1. Wood or Plastic plate (20 cm * 10 cm)
2. Rubber band
3. Propeller (if you make your own one you need two 6 cm * 4 cm wood or plastic plates)
4. Carpentry glue

Figure 1: Rubber band powered boat

This is the boat what we are going to make today. First we need to make body of the boat. For this you need to take 20 cm * 10 cm wood or plastic plate and cut it to shape as shown in figure 2. If you are a kids please take some assistance from your parents to make this.

Figure 2: Body of the boat

Then you need to make propeller for your boat. This propeller design is little simple one. As shown in figure 3 you need to first cut 6 cm * 4 cm wood or plastic plate. You need two pieces of same size and same shape as shown in figure 2. Then using Carpentry glue you need to paste those two pieces and make a propeller.

Figure 3: Two pieces of boat propeller

Final step is to fix this propeller to body of the boat using rubber band. Put rubber band across the propeller and place in between boat body hole (the rectangle shape hole of backside of boat body). Now you have made your rubber band powered toy boat. Next things is to try our work. Go to some place you have enough water to try your boat. Then wind your propeller backward enough and place your boat on the water and release the propeller. Now you can see your boat is moving forward slowly. Happy ?

Try some changes and make different models based on this model. Good luck.

Rubber Band Powered Toy Boat

As our first project will make rubber band powered toy boat. This boat is very simple one, but you can learn basic theory on how boats are moving on the water. There are lot of different types of boats, ships...etc people had made. Basic theories behind those ships are most of the time common and some are based on the advance theories. Anyway it is very important to understand the basics and move forward. This project will great fun to kids and I encourage them to construct this boat on their own with the help of parents.

First will understand how boats are working. Any boat should float on the water. The shape of the boat, materials used to make the boat, size of the boat are major factors to float a boat on the water. For example if you try to make small toy boat using iron or heavy metal that small boat will sink immediately. But if you consider large ships, those are made with heavy metal or iron and those large ships are floating on the water. How this happens? The fact is size and shape of the ship. To float anything on the water, there should have some upward pressure from water on the ship. We can control this pressure by changing the size and shape of the boat. When the size of the ship is very large, this pressure is also high. So that it can float very large weight and that is why large ship can be built using metal but they are floating well. But this ship got some damage on its body again this will sink. Why? We said that if the size of the boat is large there is very high upward pressure but when some damage happened it can flow water into the boat and change the overall weight. This make instability of the boat and boat get sink.

You should have some idea about how to design body of the boat. Now will move into actual work. To make this toy boat you need following parts:

1. Wood or plastic plate (about 20 cm * 10 cm)
2. Rubber band
3. Small plastic propeller (this can be found from any old toy boat or you can make a one)

First you need to make body of the boat. You need to cut your wood or plastic plate as shown in figure 1.

Figure 1

Figure 2

Then as show in figure 2 fix the rubber band and propeller. Now boat is complete. Go to some water where you can try your boat. Wind the propeller of your boat, while keeping the propeller steady place your boat on the water and release the propeller. Now you can see that your boat is moving forward. If your boat moving backward that mean you have wind your rubber band backward. Wind the propeller again to opposite direction ,put your boat to water and see your boat move forward.

But this boat can move only forward or backward. How boats are turning? Will talk about on that in next article. Until that try this simple boat and have a fun.
